If the comic above is a bit confusing, MuslimHeritage.com created a really wonderful animation showing how the elephant clock worked. There’s also a twenty-foot model currently touring the world with the 1001 Muslim Inventions installation, and right now it’s making its US debut at the New York Science Museum! It’s free to see with regular admission, but it’s only there through April 24th, so go soon!

If you’re not near NYC or one of the other cities it’s touring, you can still check out this video from the presentation starring Sir Ben Kingsley, and this neat special from The History Channel that talks about Al-Jazari’s water wheels.
