The Conflagration of Moscow was an enormous mechanical diorama that Maelzel created to celebrate Napoleon’s Pyrrhic victory in 1812 .
The woman in the last panel, Nannette Streicher , along with her husband, is the owner of the piano factory where Maelzel is renting shop his space. It’s said that Beethoven favored their pianos , even going so far as to help sell them.
